For 25 years, the International Film Festival Hory a Mesto has been bringing outdoor experiences from around the world. It is a five-day competitive showcase of mountain films, accompanied by multimedia presentations by both international and Slovak guests who are world-class experts in adventure sports. Approximately a quarter of all films in the competition program are new works by Slovak filmmakers, and the quality of these films continues to rise each year. This makes Hory a Mesto an irreplaceable platform for presenting the best of outdoor films in Slovakia and beyond. The festival regularly premieres films on mountain themes, extreme sports, and travel. In 2019, we were the first in Slovakia to screen the Oscar-winning film Free Solo featuring Alex Honnold. That same year, we welcomed another top climber, Tommy Caldwell, with his film Dawn Wall.
This year, you can look forward to Jakob Schubert, a two-time Olympic medallist in sport climbing and one of the world’s best climbers, Lucia Janičová, the first Slovak woman to summit Everest, and many other inspiring guests. As always, the festival will include the Festival Educational Trail and special screenings for schools. The Festival Educational Trail, held at our partner venue EUROVEA, will offer interactive activities and learning opportunities at various stations.
As in previous years, the festival will continue with a tour across Slovakia, bringing the best films to partner cities, mountain huts, and campsites.
