Lucia Janičová, a scientist specializing in immunology and oncology, hails from Prešov and now lives in Edinburgh. Alongside her work at a biotechnology company, she is a mother and a mountaineer who discovered her passion for climbing nine years ago. From sea cliffs and rock faces, she progressed to winter mixed climbing, ice climbing, and ultimately high-altitude mountaineering, where she began preparing for her biggest goal—Mount Everest.
However, her journey to the roof of the world was not just about altitude; it was also about overcoming personal challenges. For her, the mountains have become a symbol of resilience, freedom, and strength. “Climbing has helped me not only in the mountains but also in life. I believe that our past does not have to define us—we can achieve more than we think.”
During the festival, Lucia will take you beyond the climb itself, offering insights into the demanding preparation alongside her family life. She will introduce the key training summits that paved the way for her success—Mont Blanc (4,807 m), Mera Peak in the Himalayas (6,476 m), and Aconcagua in the Andes (6,961 m). Through unique audiovisual footage, her determination, perseverance, and resilience will guide you across glacial crevasses and endless ascents all the way to the top of the world.
